Episode 92: Mathematicians In A Pandemic

Hello and welcome to The Moving Curve. I’m Rukmini, a data journalist based in Chennai. Twice a week on this mini-cast, I consider one question around the novel coronavirus epidemic in India. Tonight I’m asking this one — how can mathematicians help in understanding the pandemic?

Here’s that March 10 medium post by a Silicon Valley app creator: Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now

This is Murad Banaji on Twitter: https://twitter.com/muradbanaji

Here’s some of his writing on the pandemic: http://maths.mdx.ac.uk/research/modelling-the-covid-19-pandemic/

For me, I think every fresh set of eyes is valuable, from doctors and epidemiologists and mathematicians, to the many amateur modellers, media scanners and science enthusiasts who have come at these debates from new angles.

Thank you for listening. This episode was edited by Anand Krishnamoorthi. On the next episode — a new question.
