Hello and welcome to The Moving Curve. I’m Rukmini, a data journalist based in Chennai. Every night on this mini-cast, I consider one question around the novel coronavirus epidemic in India. Tonight I’m asking this question — does the world’s leading expert on mortality in India believe our covid data?

One of the world’s leading experts on mortality in India is Dr Prabhat Jha, founding director of the Centre for Global Health Research in Toronto. He is a professor of disease control and an expert advisor to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and to various governments around the world on disease control strategies. http://www.cghr.org/researchers/cghr-toronto/#PJha

For the last decade, Dr. Jha has led an important investigation into death in India, the Million Death Study: http://www.cghr.org/projects/million-death-study-project/

The 2013 profile of Dr Jha in Nature journal https://www.nature.com/news/global-health-one-million-deaths-1.14269

Thank you for listening. This episode was edited by Anand Krishnamoorthi. Tomorrow — a new question.
